Even though I am not on campus anymore, I felt the need to comment on the firing of Anthony Solomon.
Trust me, I'm in no way defending the record. However, what university officials have to remember when they're searching for his replacement is that they need someone who can properly sell Bonaventure to the players.
The history of Division-I basketball is filled with great coaches. Many people emphasize the lessons they teach student-athletes, or how hard they work to make sure their players are prepared for each game. Everyone forgets to comment on the ability of a coach to properly sell student-athletes on the school and land the best players that he or she possibly can. Every great college coach has that ability.
Remember, players are still a little hesitant to come to Olean since the events that took place during the spring of 2003. They need to be sold on the school.
I hope university officials keeps that in mind during their search.
