The men's basketball team addressed the need for depth at the point guard position, when it announced April 23 that junior college point guard Ogo Adegboye signed a National Letter of Intent to attend St. Bonaventure.
Adegboye, who was born in Nigeria and raised in London comes to the Bonnies from Lamar Community College in Colorado. Before playing at Lamar, he attended Findlay Prep in Las Vegas, where his team was ranked No. 11 on the MaxPreps.com national ranking of high schools.
As a sophomore at Lamar, the 6-foot Adegboye led his team to a 27-11 record, its first Region IX Championship and its first appearance in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Tournament.
In the NJCAAs, he was an all-tournament selection, averaging 14 points, four assists and two steals in four games.
In 38 starts, he averaged 11.1 points per game with a team-high 123 assists on the season.
In a release from gobonnies.com, coach Mark Schmidt said Adegboye will fit the team's style, as well as show leadership.
"We're really excited to get a player of Ogo's caliber that not only excels on the court but in the classroom," Schmidt said. "He's a true point guard in the sense that he's extremely quick with the ball in his hands. He understands the game and is a vocal leader. Ogo fits our up-tempo style of play and most importantly he's excited to come to St. Bonaventure."
In the classroom, Adegboye maintained a 4.0 GPA in three full semesters at Lamar, according to an article in the April 25 edition of the Olean Times Herald.
The signing of Adegboye gives the Bonnies two players in their 2009 recruiting class. With the additions of red-shirts Jake Houseknecht, Lewis Leonard and Marquis Simmons, the team will have five new players eligible for playing time.
