If students are looking for a fun and easy way to support the efforts of charity organizations this semester, they need look no further than Sweet Intentions.

Formed Jan. 27, Sweet Intentions is a new club that will hold monthly bake sales in front of the Reilly Center Cafe. For each sale, club members will select a different charity, which will receive 100 percent of the proceeds.

The club is almost chartered by the Student Government Association; it is just waiting for the official word.

The club has about 25 members. They hope to encourage everyone to give to those in need while having fun at the same time.

According to the club constitution, Sweet Intentions aims "to promote awareness of issues and catastrophic events which require attention and aid." The club also hopes to "have the power to show a charitable sentiment that needs to be instilled in today's generation." Ultimately, Sweet Intentions aims to remind students of the importance of helping charities while providing an enjoyable opportunity for them to do so.

Nadia Babar, a sophomore marketing major, came up with the idea.

"I just feel like we all can help. We all have so much … No matter how big or small, we all can do something," Babar said. "It's easy for us because we're so fortunate."

Sweet Intentions will hold its first bake sale Feb. 12 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Reilly Center. This month's theme is Send Love To Haiti and the club will donate all proceeds to the Haiti relief effort. Babar estimated the price for cupcakes will be $1, while cookies will be two for $1. They will also offer a raffle. Purchasing three or more items will earn the chance to win a giant teddy bear for Valentine's Day.

Babar also said the group will research every organization before deciding to donate, so buyers can be sure that their money is going to a good cause.

Mary Rose Kubal, assistant political science professor, is the faculty adviser to the group.
