When a traumatic event takes place on a college campus, students expect to be kept informed. St. Bonaventure's Office of Safety and Security fulfilled its duties last Saturday morning by responding quickly and efficiently to a devastating and scary alleged rape in Devereux Hall.

Security officials said they responded to a call at 4 a.m. By 5:46 a.m., students received a text message alert through the e2 Alert System reading the Allegany Police Department was investigating the alleged rape.

They simultaneously sent a more detailed Notice Board with a description of the alleged perpetrator. Throughout the day, students received two more detailed Notice Boards, keeping them updated on the steps Security was taking and the investigation's status.

Some people may complain about security and how it operates, but officers made up for any weak points last week. They worked in tandem with Allegany police throughout Saturday and by Saturday night, helped police make an arrest.

Complain all you want about parking tickets, but security put in the effort when it really counted, and we should all be grateful.
