As the days wind down toward the biggest football game of the year, many St. Bonaventure students are buzzing about Super Bowl XLIV.

Despite neither the New Orleans Saints nor the Indianapolis Colts being hometown teams, some students said they are as interested as ever in the annual championship showdown.

"I like getting together with all of my friends and watching football," Scott Wozer, a sophomore finance major, said.

Sophomore biology major Amit Singal compared football to other sports, when telling why he likes the Super Bowl.

"It's one game. It's not a seven-game series like in basketball," Singal said. "Anything can happen."

Fellow sophomore biology major Jason Chien said while he's not a football fan, he watches the big game every year.

Sean Britten, senior management major, said one of the biggest reasons he watches the Super Bowl is for the commercials, which he said get funnier each year.

Chris Britten, Sean's brother and a junior music and theater major, said in addition to the commercials, one of his favorite parts is the players getting more competitive.

Joseph Pechie, a sophomore special education major, said he's a big football fan and listed the importance of the game, being the climax of the season, and the commercials as his favorite part of the game.

Another part of the game is the annual halftime show, featuring rockers The Who this year.

"I think The Who will be great," Pechie said.

When it came to the actual game, however, the fans gave mixed answers,

"I'm pretty neutral this year," Wozer said, adding he'll probably root for the Saints because of their amazing turn-around.. Wozer, a Bills fan, predicted a 34-28 Saints victory.

Chris Britten, an Eagles fan, said he'll probably root for the Saints, saying they deserve to win after a great season. Britten didn't pick a winner, but said he expects a high-scoring game.

Sean Britten, a Buccaneers fan, disagreed with his brother, saying he'll root for the Colts. He said he once rooted for the Saints, but feels they've lately played unsportsmanlike.

Quarterbacks Brett Favre of the Vikings and Kurt Warner of the Cardinals were injured on questionable hits in playoff games against the Saints.

Singal, a Vikings fan, said he'll root for the Colts, not just because his favorite team lost to the Saints, but because he thinks quarterback Peyton Manning is the best.

Pechie, a Bills fan, said he'll root for the Saints and predicted them to win 48-45, with wide receiver Marques Colston taking MVP honors.

"After what happened with (Hurricane) Katrina, it would be great for that city for the Saints to win," Pechie said.
