The Bonnies shot 33.3 percent (9-for-27) from field-goal range in the second half, and made just one of nine three-point attempts in the game.
Coach Jim Crowley attributed the loss to what he believed to be a poor effort by the Brown and White.
"This result doesn't surprise me," Crowley
said. "We continue to throw (up) lax passes and lax shots."
In the first half, the Bonnies held a 31-24 edge, led by sophomore forward Megan Van Tatenhove's 11-point effort. Senior guard Andrea Doneth added six points, including the team's lone basket from long range.
However, the Hawks started the final 20 minutes on a 16-9 run, led by sophomore forward Kelly Cavallo's four points after coming off the bench. Freshman guard Ashley Prim's layup tied the game at 40 with 11:47 to go.
The Bonnies responded with a 9-2 run, including five points by freshman guard Alaina Walker. Walker ended the game with a career-high 13 points and five rebounds.
Senior guard Dana Mitchell made a layup to give the Brown and White a 51-44 lead with 7:01 remaining, the last field goal for the Bonnies.
The Hawks answered with a 13-2 run over the final seven minutes, with the Bonnies' only points coming from a pair of Walker free throws with 4:48 left.
Senior forward Ashley Logue tied the game at 53 with a jumper with 1:38 remaining, and gave Saint Joseph's the lead by completing another jumper with 46.9 seconds remaining.
Prim added two free throws with 31.8 seconds left, giving the Hawks the victory.
Van Tatenhove led the Bonnies with 19 points, and Mitchell added 13 points in the defeat.
Sophomore guard Jessica Jenkins was held scoreless in 24 minutes of playing time, attempting just two shots.
Senior guard Mariame Djouara led Saint Joseph's with 12 points and five rebounds, the only player to reach double digits. Junior forward Dominique Bryant added seven points and seven rebounds.
The Brown and White will next travel to Charlotte for an 8 p.m. Wednesday matchup. The 49ers currently rank 3rd in the Atlantic 10 standings, and are 9-1 at home this season.
Saturday's game was part of the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA)'s "Pink Zone" initiative. Players from both teams wore pink shoelaces and headbands. Additionally, a halftime ceremony honored breast cancer survivors and those currently fighting the disease, as well as those who have succumbed to the disease.
